Re-seeding programs on over 50 reefs are securing the survival of the giant clam for at least another generation, according to WWF-Philippines. The giant clam (Tridacna gigas) is the largest living bivalve mollusk.

That is some laudable effort from Philippine conservationists! This re-seeding program should be replicated in other parts of the world where the giant clams are found.

I’m sure marine biologists over there have similar efforts. Are there tridacna gigas in Indonesia, too? I bet there are because the Philippines and Indonesia practically have the same seas.

The giant clams were first seeded in a marine laboratory before setting them out in their natural habitat.
