Hasn’t this been the case for years? Can’t send them to China because they’ll be killed, don’t want them here, no other country will take them, so on and so forth?

“The Uighurs were captured by bounty hunters in 2001. Information from the Communist Chinese led American officials to believe the Uighurs had ties to Islamic terror group Al Queda. During their detainment in Guantanimo Bay, America allowed Chinese officials to interrogate the Uighurs.”

So isn’t that a kick in the pants? The US let China interrogate the Uighurs.... wonder if the Chinese were waterboarding them...

Two U.S. officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the U.S. was prepared to give Palau up to $200 million in development, budget support and other assistance in return for accepting the Uighurs and as part of a mutual defense and cooperation treaty that is due to be renegotiated this year.

Obama has pledged to close the prison by January 2010. The Uighurs don’t see how that’s possible.

“If we are the innocent ones from day one — and for the past six years, and the government knew we were innocent — if we are still here, how he is going to deal with the 240 prisoners and shut down the base by next January?” Abbas says they ask. “They’re a little bit skeptical about it actually happening.”
